The human body is designed with seven weapons: the head, shoulders, elbows, hands, hips, knees, and feet. Each of these weapons serves a purpose in defending yourself and others. Lets explore this concept a little deeper...

Your head can be used to head-butt your attacker. The human skull is very strong and is capable of breaking a nose, or even knocking someone out. Take the hard part of your skull to soft targets such as the opponents nose. Your vocals are also part of the head. Always give consideration to your tone of voice. The ears are also part of the head. Listen to determine if other attackers are nearby, or if help is on the way.

Use your shoulders as a weapon to strike your opponents face, sternum, or any other available target.

Your elbows are hard and pointy. We train with seven elbow strikes, which will be reviewed in a future post. With the momentum gained from swinging your arms, the elbow can inflict quite a bit of damage from broken ribs to black eyes.

Keep your hands open to communicate to others that we are defending ourselves. Fingers can be used to strike the eyes. Both hands together can pop the attackers ears. A palm-heel strike can break your attackers nose. A hand strike to the neck can knock your attacker down and out.

Use your hips to control or strike your opponent as needed. Your hips can be swung side-to-side, or front-to-back, to impact you opponent.

A straight-up knee to the groin, legs, or head can be a game ender for your attacker.

Your feet can be used to stomp (sole), strike (top and heel), or control your attacker as needed to ensure your safety.

You may be gentle in spirit, but you were designed to be a fighting machine. Consider your new found defensive tools and how you might use them in a physical altercation. Attending one of my Ladies Self Defense Seminars is a great way to learn how to best leverage your seven weapons.
